Effect of Combining Impact-Aerobic and Strength Exercise, and Dietary Habits on Body Composition in Breast Cancer Survivors Treated with Aromatase In…

2023

This study examines both the effect of a twice-weekly combined exercise—1 h session of strength and 1 h session of impact-aerobic—on body composition and dietary habits after one year of treatment with aromatase inhibitors (AI) in breast cancer survivors. Overall, forty-three postmenopausal women with a BMI ≤ 35 kg/m2, breast cancer survivors treated with AI, were randomized into two groups: a control group (CG) (n = 22) and a training group (IG) (n = 21). Body composition, i.e., abdominal, visceral, and subcutaneous adipose tissue) was measured by magnetic resonance. In addition, some questionnaires were used to gather dietary data and to measure adherence to the Mediterranean diet. After …

Combined strength and endurance exercise induced fatigue and recovery

2012

Muscular fatigue is usually defined as the inability to maintain a given exercise intensity or adequate muscle force and therefore maximal isometric force, neural activation and fast force production capacity have often used determinants of acute fatigue. The purpose of the present study was to measure the acute effects of combined strength and endurance exercise on force production, muscle activation and work economy. In addition this study investigated the rate of recovery comparing the active and passive recovery models and the association of the initial fitness levels of subjects. 16 (27 ± 4 years old) male reservists performed combined strength (5x10x70%RM leg-press) and endurance (5x1…

Acute arterial stiffness, testosterone and force production responses and recovery from different combined strength and endurance loading models

2017

Much of the differences between strength (S) and endurance (E) exercise can be attributed to the contrasting endocrinological and molecular responses between the two exercise modes. From the current literature, it seems that aortic arterial stiffness, a reliable cardiovascular mortality predictor, also responds differently to these two modes of exercise. It is thus important to understand the acute responses that combined exercise loads may invoke, as acute responses are known to drive chronic adaptations. Furthermore, testosterone has been cited as a key hormone in cardiovascular protection and its effects may mediate blood flow and hemodynamics. Currently, there are very few studies inves…
